PROJECT DESCRIPTION:

Hydrates impede dissolution on a molecular scale. Predictions of sequestration effectiveness depends on the global scale. We will develop simulations of carbon sequestration by direct CO2 injection spanning a large range of spatial scales. Gutorm Alendal (NERSC, Norway) is using experimental parameters determined by Peter Brewer (MBARI). We will be predicting mid- and large-scale CO2 concentrations and pH changes using both the LLNL global ocean GCM, and a particle tracking model being developed jointly with Eric Adams (MIT).
